Erla is coming

Hi Everyone, here is my current build - Bf-109G-6/R-6 trop, Erla, flown by Ugo Drago. Still some weathering and final touches needed. The most "exhausting" build in my life - it started it's life as 1/32 Trumpeter G-2 with corrected rudder, then become G-6 standard with Quickboost "beule" gun blisters, spinner and tropical filter with hand made (Milliput) wheel blisters on the wings - and finally (at last...) G-6 Erla with rebuilt engine cover. All markings have been airbrushed using Montex masks. True model building like in my "early days" :-) Life is not easy.... I hope the final result will be acceptable. Waiting for your comments - there is still time to improve one thing or another ;-)

You did a good job with the Erla scheme.

Looking real good!
I have a limited edition print from Ernie Boyette.
Ugo Drago's BF-109 G-6
Identical colour scheme as yours.
The only difference is the spinner is white with a black swirly line.

Vince,
Ernie Boyette's print of Ugo Drago's RA Bf.109G6R3Trop 363-7 is fairly inaccurate, the spinner is indeed all white + base plate, the scheme is Erla not Mtt (in fact Ernie Boyette mixes up both) and the tactical markings are pretty inaccurate in shape and size. There is no spine color differentiation 74/75 in Ernie Boyette's print. Below a photo and profile from ASI #1. The ASI #1 profile is a little more accurate although the rudder cross is not correct.

The longer I watch this picture - the more I become convinced that spinner plate is in dark color. What do you think?

I agree, when you expand the photo the spinner back plate is likely RLM 70.

email me a short write-up of your build and any additional photos you'd like to add to the article and I'd be delighted to add your work to the Gallery.

For those of you interested this is what Ernie Boyette's painting looks like, note the absence of the unit badge in the photo:

By the way - I've used HGW wet transfers for the first time - and I think the result is just great - stencils look as they've been painted
