In the latest issue of Scale Aircraft Modelling, here in the U.K. there is reference to the above.
Apparently, one was filled with explosives,on 12th August,1942,and used against the Pedestal convoy;it seems the pilot set the plane on course, then bailed out,the control being taken over by radio fitted in a Z1007bis.
This malfunctioned and it eventually crashed into Mt.Khenchela in Algeria.
Anyone heard of this before?
I don't have every book printed on the R.A. but I have a fair few and I've never come across this at all.

A well known coordinated attack using Motobomba FFF torpedoes and a radio controlled SM.79 carrying a 2,200 lb bomb, its purpose was to be guided onto one of the escorting aircraft carriers during Operation Pedestal. Later on a purpose built weapon system was developed by Lombarda AR (two prototypes) using a parasite C.202 (an Italian Mistel):

It's the first I've ever heard of this particular 'plane and the radio guidance system-cannot find it in any of my books.
Thanks again

Hi Steve, Peter C. Smith describes the operation in "Pedestal - The Malta Convoy of August 1942" Crecy Books Ltd. 1994. The book has gone through a number of reprints, first published in 1970, and I'm pretty sure you can find the book in your local library.
