S.M. 79-II

Post by davenport49 » Fri Sep 30, 2022 12:51 pm

Finally getting courage to tackle Trumpeter S.M. 79 with complete detailing set from Model Bunker. Starting with this bulkhead. But I don't know what the items on the left side of the photo are, or what their colors would be. Can someone help?

The radio set should be grey and not black. I think that on the opposite side you ave a mechanic control panel for the engines, but I am not sure. You sure will have some fun with the Bunker set, keep it up! Cheers.

I'm repainting the panels medium grey, but I still don't know what the two items in the lower left of the photo are. Can someone help?

Richard that's the bulkhead just ahead of the scalloped rear-facing dorsal gun doors, here's a view of it and the radio from Paolo Carli's S.79-II:

The radio:

Here's Paolo's article:

Here's Jean's article S.79-II (another Classic I need to update). In this build he provides photos of the radio and its installation:

Here's Jean's other article S.79-II, probably the best of them all:

Thanks, Vince. I've repainted the panels and am much more satisfied with them now. My immediate issue was the cylinder behind the left-hand seat; the photos gave a pretty good image of that, so I can move on. I'll be posting progress reports/photos as this project progresses.

I'm sort of working along similar lines as Peter Sig re: colors of the interior of the SM 79. Does anyone have color photos of the cockpit? The Model Bunker detail set is very elaborate, way beyond the original Trumpeter parts. It would really help if I knew what I was looking at. I have the photo of the Algerian (?) wheels & instrument panel, the Parts and Maintenance manuals, which are some help, but color photos of the side panels and rear bulkhead would be very helpful.

Hi!
I don't know if I understood the question but as for the colors and the areas where to use them I would follow this scheme:
The cockpit of the sm79 that starts from the cockpit up to the engine / machine gunner's wall is in anti-corrosion green.
The radios are all in gray interior like all the rest of the structure that goes from the wall of the machine gunner to the tail.
All radio dials are black with white markers
The pilots control panel is black with black dials and white indicators
The seats of the pilots are leather-colored
The engineer's panel is black and the compressed air cylinder placed immediately behind it is made of aluminum.
The reclining tables of the radio operator can be made in wood or gray
For all other areas such as bomb bay, trolley compartment. slat etc. gray

I hope I have answered your question

That's a lot of detail in there. Even if your colors are not exactly correct, who would know? (Besides you and us)
I just got promoted to Comandante!

I've been working on the cockpit set from 3D Models Kits, which is 3-D printed resin. Here's the finished cockpit.

Impressive work, looks great to me, I even think that I have that kit in the stash.

Cheers

Thanks, Dennis. This is my second build for the Trumpeter kit; the detail set from 3D Models Kits is making a world of difference. Last time I used the Eduard Big Ed kit, which I found to be really frustrating.

Great job Richard - the cockpit looks great. Vey interesting, I've always thought 3D printing would eventually replace the methods used to make kits now.
