Proper colors for SM 74

Post by Vincent Fiore » Thu Sep 23, 2021 6:07 am

I am in the process of building the Bro Plan vac-form of the SM 74. Could someone please inform as of the proper colors used for the civil aircraft I ROMA.
I have seen several pictures of models painted white and blue. I have my doubts about those colors as most civil aircraft of that time were painted ivory and blue. Thank you for all the help I will receive.

Vince here are some black and white photos of I-URBE and I-ROMA. The colors for I-URBE can be seen in the Ala Littoria postcard, the last image in this post - the FS numbers I don't know, even white has different shades and various profiles depict these planes with Bianco Avorio 5 which was used on military (colonial) aircraft. The postcard however clearly shows a regular white - email Stefano and see if he has more to add here. Blue (Ala Littoria blue?) in the 2nd and 3rd images of I-ROMA is fairly light (the first image of I-ROMA is over exposed). The shade of blue Anatoly used on his SEM Model S.74 is close to the shade in the post-card.

Thanks, Vince,

I will go with blue and white.

I had asked Stefano for help with the colors, but he did not reply. He probably is very busy at work. Thank you for the help I really appreaseate it.

Stefano is a surgeon, he's very busy and as you may recall many surgeries were deferred when Covid hit and just piled-up, it's incredible he finds time to help us - I could not have done Stormo Decals without him - his research (his feedback) is first rate. It could also be he doesn't know :) I think the safest bet is blue and white as in the postcard.
