Capt Corrado Ricci

Wil, A beatiful build of Capt Corrado Ricci's CR.42CN. I am impressed at how you captured the details that manufacturers have forever seemed to miss on this aircraft, namely the retangular air intake and double oil coolers. The paint scheme and motteling on the lower cowling is especially well done....

CR.42 162a Sqd 161 Grp Colors

Martin, I would agree with Daniele that 162a Sqd 161 Grp aircraft were painted in the Fiat factory scheme; likely with silver doped lower surfaces and pale blue or blue-gray struts. The yellow cowlings were most likely painted at unit level; and the over spray could be the result of lifting of shift...

1/72 CR.42

Aleksander, very nice work in this scale. I am especially impressed by what you did with the cockpit framework and the engine. Painting a mottled paint scheme in 1/72 can also be especially daunting. I use primarily a Pasche VL; what type of airbrush are you using? Keep up the good work and be sure ...

CR.42 AS Sand Filter

Thank you for identifying a source for a correct sand filter. Unless someone were willing to part with the part in question, that would seem like a lot of money to spend for just a sand filter. Unless someone like Quick Boost comes to the rescue it would seem that my best option is to correct and/or...

CR.42 Production Batches

Series VII-X would be production batches in the Dec 1940-thru-Sep 1941 (MM 7002-7658) time frame? Production of the CR.42 AS began in Autumn 1941, so presumably these aircraft would have had grgio mimetico undersurfaces?

CR.42 AS Sand Filter

I have been comparing the Italeri CR.42 AS sand filter against photo's of the same. It appears that the Italeri sand filter is too deep in profile and the inlet opening too small (parts 40 and 41). The Classic Airframes CR.42 AS fit does a better job of capturing the sand filter's depth and the inle...

Col Raffraele Colacicchi's CR.42 AS

I have a question about the white theater marking on Col Raffreale Colacicchi's CR.42 AS (15 Stromo d'Asstalto). The one published photo is of somewhat poor quality (too much contrast). The Squadron/Signal publication "Fiat CR 32/CR 42 in action" notes that the white theater band did not completely ...

CR.42 Lower Surface Colors

This is another of those "the more you look, the more you ask yourself" questions. On the subject of CR.42 lower surface colors; I have noted in B&W (origional film panchromatic or orthochromatic?) photos that there is a distict tonal and reflectivity difference between the lower surface of the wing...

Interesting photo of 85 Squadriglia, 18 Gruppo CR.42

I agree this is an intersting photo of an 85 Squadriglia, 18 Gruppo CR.42. I cannot recall see a photo previosly of these markings. Also note that it appears that this aircraft has a louvered cowling, and it is possible that this aircraft also featured dual oil coolers.

CR.42 AS

Good morning All, A few months ago I submitted to Quickboost my wishlist of 1/72 and 1/48 CR.42 parts consisting of: Corrected Carburetor Sand Filters for CR.42 AS/LW (1/72, 1/48) Louvered Forward Cowling for CR.42 BA/CB (1/72, 1/48) Half-Rount Carburetor Intake for standard CR.42 (1/48) Rectangular...

CR.42 AS

Stefano, I noted this as well in the Italeri 1/72 scale CR.42 AS kit. The reason I think that they depict the aiorcraft this way may be that the available photos of this aircraft are from the rear quarter, and the wing bomb racks are not visible. My opinion is that since the aircraft is a CR.42 AS, ...

Riccardo Thank you for such a prompt response. I would be very interested in any information that you can provide that shed light on this issue. I have delayed starting an Italeri 1/72 scale CR.42 AS, as well as a CA 1/48 scale CR.42 AS (though I may replace/combine this with the Italeri 1/48 CR.42 ...

Fiat CR.42 Enlarged Oil Cooler Fairings

A feature missing from the Italeri Fiat CR.42 kits, both 1/72 and 1/48 as well as all other kits of this aircraft, is the second oil cooler inlet below the origional wing root oil cooler inlet and its associated fairing extending aft to an exhuast duct, parallel to the wing trailing edge and slightl...
