Looks like it's seen some service! Should be a great addition to a diorama.

Re: S.M. 79-II

I understand your anguish. The list of examples is unending. It makes those which have been restored, e.g. Die Frauen Kirche, Dresden and "The Gold Room" of Augsburg's Rathaus, all that more amazing. An incredible tribute to a people's determination to reclaim their culture.

Re: S.M. 79-II

As I recall, and at my age that's questionable :eh: , it was targeted. Much as the Russians are doing now, the Axis tried to bomb the place out of existence. I seem to remember (there's the memory thing again.... ) they endured 3,000 bombing raids over two years. A couple of excellent videos on the ...

Re: S.M. 79-II

I agree completely. We had the opportunity to spend a week touring Malta a few years ago; one of the highlights of my life! And learning about its critical role in the war in the Mediterranean, which was new to me, was incredible. The once-gorgeous opera house in Valletta remains in its bombed-out c...

Re: S.M. 79-II

This was an Airfix 1/48th, (05110). I went through my construction notes and didn't find any mention of the source for decals, and Scalemates doesn't list 323/S as included in the kit. So, I don't know where they came from. Curious!

Of course! I hadn't stopped to consider he was Canadian and a national hero. Although it doesn't fit the Stormo theme, here are a couple shots of my tribute to him.

Re: S.M. 79-II

Excellent volume, found it really fascinating. Also, just came across a biography of pilot Sgt. George Beurling, known variously as "Knight of Malta", "Falcon of Malta", labeled by press as "Buzz" Beurling, but by peers as "Screwball" Beurling. Credited with 27 "kills" while stationed in Malta. I ha...

Re: S.M. 79-II

Thanks for the compliment, Vince. It's only taken 70-some years! Here is the completed fuselage interior. I know there are prominent ejector pin marks, but they won't be visible once the fuselage is closed up. https://i.postimg.cc/fVLnsr2g/20221101-075953.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/94yjgqNW/...

Re: Mystery SM 79 with Tail “Kills” Markings

Wonderful information! I passed by the Squadron "In Action" photo, the detail not being very good and not knowing the significance. Finding new information about Operation Pedestal continue to make it a fascinating topic.

Progress is coming along nicely.

There's lots of modification of the fuselage, like enlarging the opening for the gondola. :problem:

Re: SM 79 interior color questions

Peter,

I'm personally following Stefano's lead re: cockpit decking. Nevertheless, I'm THRILLED you posted the link. A LOT of photos I've not seen, especially the restoration, which directly relate to my current build. They're going to be a tremendous help.
