They were applied over the normal "Ivory" color. IIRC, they were used as a quick way to locate a downed aircraft.

Not much different from the use of the red color on Arctic aircraft.

I would like to see examples of these "red bias" films. A common film used by the British was orthochromatic film which made reds look dark as well as yellows. Blue was quite pale. I cannot recall one picture which shows the red of the roundel or fin flash to be non-existent. The other issue is the ...

There is reason to not accept that "all" Fiat CR 42 aircraft were painted the same.

The British also reported BR 20 aircraft in only a yellow base with green. No brown or maroon.

The Finnish references are reliable.

There is one more decal markings. Those in the CA Cr 42 CN. I have to agree that a yellow moon on the blue triangle is probably correct.

Two very old and very dusty Cr 32s. They are 1/50 scale so a bit small compared to the normal 1/48. You need to sand down the fence post massive struts. I also replaced the little air foils above the ailerons with thinner sheet plastic. Probably should have used even thinner. The markings are a mix ...

Stefano: Most interesting pictures. Thank you, Yes, it would appear that the numbers could be different color. But there are two issues. The first is that the picture was taken long after the BoB (not earlier than early 1941 with the introduction of the fuselage recognition band) and at a different ...

Might ant to drop back to AWF. Seems another truth has fallen. Looks like the code was the same blue as the badge!

Be very very careful. I have nearly all of his references, and this build appears to be his conclusions only. A modeling decision of an unverifiable. One reference shows an aircraft of that unit (352-2) in a Nocciola Chiaro with streaky Verde Oliva Scuro ('Scale Aviation Modeller International', Vol...

Are your color call-outs based on factory records or interpretation of the picture. If the base color is Giallo 3, then the picture represents that color as being nearly brown. Whereas the color chart and FS approximation would indicate that it would be closer an RAF Middle Stone. Could be a printin...

which raises another question. Was there a stroboscopic light mounted on each cowlings? Seems all rather primative, considering RPM gauges were probably available. Ah yes, I do now remember the days when setting the engine timing was a mechanical task. Now I dare not even look under the hood for fea...
