Regia Aeronautica seat harness

The instruction illustration is kind of ambiguous.  Can someone provide an in place photo or better illustration?  I'm especially curious about the dark brown rectangle; what is that, and does it have any thickness, like a parachute pack?

One of those topics or details that rarely get talked about. Here are some photos from Aero Detail #15 of part of the seat harness and how to it was arranged or what you can gather from it. The photos come from the C.205V at AerMacchi S.p.A at Varese.

Thanks, Vince. First, I realized I didn't very well explain what I'm doing - I'm working with the Eduard set 49-105 on an Re. 2001 Falco II.

Second, comparing the photo you provided with the attached that I received, it appears the wide leather straps could be draped over the back of the seat when parked, then put over the pilot's shoulders for flight; the narrow (leather/fabric?) straps connected them to the retention reel. Does that sound right? If so, I can drape the wide straps over the back of the seat with an open cockpit.

The photo you attached is better than the one I posted. Honestly I'm not sure how the seat harness worked, if you find more information lets us know because this question has come up in the past.

This is the other illustration I received. It's interesting that the large leather rectangle I mentioned appears to simply be padding for the pilot's back. In the illustration, it appears the large leather straps are clipped to the chain at the seat crotch, as seen in my earlier post. I'm not sure the purpose of the two chains at the corners. What's particularly interesting is there isn't any lap belt. Apparently the shoulder harness and center chain were sufficient.

I'm going with my assumption above. It seems to make sense; the small straps attached the harness to the retention reel, the large straps were draped over the back of the seat when parked and draped over the shoulders and attached to the chain for flight.

Thanks for the photo, Vince. It helped to make sense of this.

If anyone knows something better, please let me know right away; I'm about to do the deed! :?

Richard here are a few more photos and a description for each of the photos. The photos are from Maurizio's Squadron-Signal Walk Around C.205V:

These slightly fuzzy (!) drawings are actually from an aftermarket kit detailing set, but do have some interesting details.
