THE NEW FORUM!
Posted: Fri Jun 14, 2019 6:19 pm
Welcome back!
First of all thank you for your messages and my apologies for the long wait. After the old board crashed in early March (thanks Yahoo!) it took a few weeks to determine what exactly happened to the old forum, I then spent a few more weeks looking at alternatives to hosting a new forum and what to do next and spent the remaining time selecting a new format and customizing it to Stormo’s formatting standards. Basically the old database was damaged, I was able to use a copy of an older database but we lost about 300+ users and 3000+ posts. On the positive side, I’m glad to let everyone know the new forum is better, it’s easier to register although the old forum registration process was unbreakable. Although registering was unbreakable in the old forum and served us well for 15 yrs (no spam!), it also discouraged users from registering (it was hard to register). The new forum has the general feel and look of the old forum but has much more capability. The new forum is easier to navigate, it’s modern and up to date, all the latest technology is packed into this forum, you can easily add attachments to your messages (drag n' drop if you prefer) as well as download files (see the example below), which is easier and cleaner. The new forum also runs well on mobile devices.
On the fun side, there are more smileys for your posts - some are animated - and all the original avatars have been reworked - there’s over 200+ new interesting avatars that include the following:
Bombers:
29 new avatars – includes the S.79 Corsa racers, BR.20 racer, Buscaglia's S.79, new S.84s, S.84bis, S.79 I and II, Lebanese S.79, AMI S.79, 10 S.81s, SCW S.81s, S.74, Austrian Ca.133
Fighters:
65 new avatars – includes Swedish, Belgian, Hungarian CR.42s, CR.42 CN, Visintini’s CR.42; 16 new Re.2000s, Hungarian and Swedish Re.2000s, MAVAG Heja’s; 8 new Re .2001s, Re.2001GV, Re.2001S, CB RE.2001; 18 new CR.32s, Italian and Spanish Aces, Soviet CR.32; 6 new C.205Vs Croatian, German and Italian Aces
Foreign Types:
32 new avatars – 15 new B.109s, G2, G6, G10, G12, G10, K4; Italian Aces Spigaglia, Bellagambi, Drago, Visconti, Miani, 1o Gruppo and 2o Gruppo; Bf.110C, Dewoitine D.520 (these are for you Jean, love you bro !), Do.217J-1, Ju.87B/D, P.39 M/N/Q (for all our US users who make up the bulk of activity on Stormo, by far!), Spitfires (for all our friends in the UK)
Ground Attack:
22 new avatars – Iraqi, Chilean, Portuguese Br.65s A80/K14s, 10 x Re.2002s (German, Italian, CB), 2 x CR.42AS
Pilots:
6 new avatars – these avatars are probably my favorite category – portraits of Gorrini, Visconti, Serafini and a color portrait of Italian ANR Aces
Reconnaissance:
20 new avatars – Ca.309, Ca.310, Yugoslavian, French and Swedish Ca.311s, Ca.313 (+torpedo carrying, German and Italian), Ca.314, IMAM Ro.37/bis
Trainers:
12 new avatars - FL.3 (Croatian, German and Italian), FN.305 (Chilean, Romanian, Hungarian, Italian), IMAM Ro.41
Units:
34 new avatars – Regia Aeronautica and ANR
Jets:
3 new avatars – Caproni-Campini N.1 – more jets to come, namely AMI post-war jets – stay tuned
Regia Marina:
20 new avatars – RS.14, Romanian Z.501, IMAM Ro.43 Recce and IMAM Ro.44 fighter
The Avatar Gallery is worth having a look through, there’s allot of interesting stuff to choose from and if anything there may be too much choice!
Recent Topics on the index page of the Forum replaces the old “New Forum Posts” you saw on the main site and that replaced the old Topics Anywhere script that stopped working – thanks again Yahoo! I’m looking for a script that does what the other two scripts did well but it looks like I’ll have to program something myself which is hugely time consuming and I haven’t programmed in sql and php in quiet a while, so we may be stuck with Recent Topics, although it’s not so bad.
The New Forum incorporates the latest multimedia technology, so you'll need a current browser to view it properly.
I can proudly say we have the best forum in the business so lets get at ‘er and lets have some fun! Enjoy!
Modeling and History Articles will resume shortly!
