Building a Ca-309 from a Ka-309 Papagal

Post by Shane » Mon Aug 11, 2008 5:47 pm

I purchased an LF resin Ka-309 Papagal at the IPMS convention at Virginia Beach last weekend. I wanted to convert this Bulgarian aircraft into the original Italian version made by Caproni, the Ca-309. Has anyone built the Ka-309 resin kit and what changes should I attempt if I wanted to make this conversion? The LF kit is a little rough around the edges.

Over on Modeling Madness website (Aug 11) Camel Attard wrote an article on converting an Italeri 1/72 Ca-313 into the Bulgarian Ka-309. He mentions many of the aircrafts differences. Is that the only resource available? Thanks in advance.

I'm not familar with the Ka-309, but here's some information and a profile of the Ca.309 that might help:

It seems that this aircraft has been over looked by kit manufacturers. It looks like I will have to change the tail/fuselage, swap engines and not cut out the fuselage windows and find some spatted landing gear to make the Italian CA 309. Overall, not bad. Thanks again.
