I was just wondering how the special hobby G.55 kit compares to the flying machines kit (with optional torpedo version)?

Is the fuselage accurate length and size?

Is the fuselage length & width accurate?
Any photo etch parts in the SH kit?
Do you get the optionmal torpedo version parts in the SH kit?
How well do the parts fit. Is there much seam filling or scribing required?

Hello Nino! I haven't built mine yet so I can't tell you how it builds.

The Flying Machines shares most of it's parts with the SH kit. In addition to what you find in the SH kit you get two lower wings, one for the Silurante version and one for the fighter version and the parts that are need to do the silurante version. It has a small colored photo etched sheet that covers mostly the cockpit. Lots of great resin accesories including the cockpit and other goodies. The SH kit doesn't include the resin parts.

Check this review of the SH kit here:

Just build it!

Working on:
1/35 Autoblnda AB.41
1/48 P-47D Brazilian Jambock Squadron Senta Pua!

I have built the FM Silurante kit, but what follows would apply to the SH kit as well.

The trailing edges of the wing are quite thick and will need thinning down a fair amount.

The stabiliser fillets on the fuselage need to be trimmed to avoid a swept back appearance.

The cowling assembly is tricky to align.

The etch grilles are too deep for the wing radiators.

Despite all this, the kit looks great when complete. The best G.55 kit out there.

Kit of the year

Post by aframpton » Fri Jan 18, 2008 2:49 pm

My nomination for kit of the year has to be Alpha Flight's
C.R.D.A. Cant. Z. 506B/S Airone. I know it's not actually RA.
However, As usual the quality is good and it's huge.
A bit expensive but worth it.

My all time favorite would be a tie between Classic Airframes RE 2000, because of it's links to Sweden, or RCR Breda Ba65A-80 as its a great kit.

Ciao Amici,

This is slightly off the topic!

I currently have the Hasegawa MC. 205 kit 09133. I was wondering if the Hasegawa 09184 Co-Belligerant kit is different to the 09133 kit apart from the decals?

It's time to let the cat out of the bag. Firstly thanks to all my fellow RA fans who took the time to vote in my little poll.I had hoped for more replies to get a really good selection, maybe next time.Drum roll please, and the winner the PCM's RE.2005 Tah Dah.Not really just kidding the real winner is Italeri's SM.82 and the favorite is also Italeri's SM.82.The Kit of the Year runner up was a dead tie between Special Hobby's G.55 and Italeri's Cr.42.Once again thanks to all who took part in this poll.
