I just ordered the Italeri 1/48 Macchi MC.205. Now I need to locate decals relating to Malta. Do either of the Stormo sheets available apply? Or are there alternatives?
Thanks.
Richard

The plane you want is Beggiato's C.205V Serie I (MM.9324) that was based at Pantelleria, mostly in support of the Tunisian campaign at that point of the war. Flights of C.202s (e.g., Visconti 86-8 MM.7944) based at Pantelleria flew over Malta on reconnaissance and combat missions the previous year. Stefano might have more to add here.

That looks like "Aces, Part I". Once again, thanks so much, Vince. I have projects lined up to last through the rest of this pandemic!

Yes Beggiato's C.205V Serie I (MM.9324) is in 48008. Lets see what more Stefano has to add.davenport49 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 17, 2020 2:59 pmThat looks like "Aces, Part I". Once again, thanks so much, Vince. I have projects lined up to last through the rest of this pandemic!

Re: Macchi MC.205 over Malta
Firstly, I repeat that 88-1 is just supposed to have been the mount of Guido Beggiato.
The 88^ squadriglia in that period met Allied fighters just in the evening of 8 June 1943, in a battle over Italian island of Pantelleria, not far by Malta. 23 MC.202s, 11 MC.205s and 6 Bf 109Gs of either 1° and 53° stormi and JG53 had a clash with Spitfires, P-38s and P-40s. The 88^ squadriglia claimed two Spitfires and the other units eight more and a P-38, for the loss of two MC.205s and three MC.202s. Beggiato, if present, didn't score here.

I recognize now that the C.205 came too late to be directly involved in the Malta conflict or the convoys sent to supply Malta. Still, it's a beautiful aircraft & I look forward to adding it to my collection.
