New member here. I am currently building Hasegawa's 1/48 MC.202 Folgore and was interested in Italeri's 1/48 scale CR.42.
Do you have any advice about building this kit? The wing rib detail looks very exaggerated - should it be sanded down?
Also, is the engine very visible? Would you suggest extra detailing or replacement?

Richard pretty much summed up the issues with this kit but here's a little more information: below is Davide Splendore's Italeri 1/48 CR.42 (its an old article but still quite good and I really need to update it), he provides some construction detail and how he toned down the exaggerated ribbing effects and the extra work he did to detail the engine using the kit supplied engine.

Jean found the Classic Airframes kit to be a better kit (and I tend to agree) although there is a noticeable curve on the upper wing of the CA kit and its a short-run kit and is missing the front and rear oil coolers (located at the wing roots front and back):

Jean replaced the prop and used the Vector engine in these builds:

Bordoni Biselri's CR.42 (1/48 Italeri)

1/48 Italeri Fiat CR.42

In general the 1/48 Italeri kit is accurate and easy to build and models the front and rear exhaust oil coolers correctly.
