Caproni Vizzola F.5

Post by GAJouette » Thu Nov 29, 2007 10:06 pm

Hello All,
I found a new Regia Aeronautica fighter,at least to me.My copy of the Squadron book Regia Aeronautica:1935-1943 (1976) arrived in todays mail.On page 14 is a small caption concerning the Caproni Vizzola F.5.As per the caption it was acontemporary of the G.50 and Mc.200.Does anyone know anymore about this fighter? This would be a good canidate for the other RA aircaft elsewhere in the forum. To me this F.5 looks like a G.50with a Mc.200 cowl with a full canopy no less.Kind of neat too. :?:

Documentation is hard to find on this particular aircraft. It is a neat looking plane, with quite an elegant semi eliptical wing. They were powered by the same Fiat A.74 engines as used in the G.50 and C.200. Only the prototype had the fully enclosed canopy. The 14 pre-production aircraft had revised semi-enclosed canopies and were they only ones to be built. They were sent to 41 Stormo and used as night fighters in the defence of Rome.

Aplhaflight have produced a nice 1/72 resin kit of this aircraft and is well worth tracking down. You could try either the Misterkit or Italiankits website.

Here are two images of the plane in charge as nightfighter to the 300° Squadriglia; in one photo it is possible to see the code 300-12; noteworthy the white fuselage band that interests only the lower surfaces

Hi all,

According to Hannants website, Planet Models will be releasing a kit of this plane. I'm assuming that it will be a resin kit as well.

Best wishes,
Brendan

I hope it's a 1:48 kit. Two of my favorite subjects: Italian and nightfighter in my favorite scale. I didn't even know this plane existed before I saw this thread.

Best wishes,
Brendan
