1/72nd Scale North African Desert Diorama Aircraft Set

Post by RetiredInKalifornia » Wed Jul 03, 2024 4:26 pm

The only theme diorama created over 59 on-off years of modeling several sprayed & hand painted 1/72nd scale military equipment resin parts from number of makers, some Italian specific, were placed over HO (1/87) scale JTT Scenery Products scene sheets sprinkled with Vietnamese-made gravel replicating North African desert scrub. The diorama created specifically to populate with Revell Macchi C.200 & FROG Macchi C.202s models painted in early-war uovo in camicia (poached egg) schemes during 2019 I'd replaced them with models built years earlier in desert camo as shown below.

1/72nd Scale Breda Ba.88 Models

Post by RetiredInKalifornia » Thu Jul 04, 2024 4:05 pm

The MPM Kit No.72538 & Planet Models No.PLT093 Breda Ba.88 Lince (Lynx) 1/72nd model kits unlike The Real McCoys when came to operational performance met parts quality & detailing expectations though more cockpit interior, engine, cowling & landing gear detailing would been nice.

Near non-stop model building since January has taken its toll  that along with oppressive heat Image will resume model building September 15th with the out-of-box Special Hobby Piaggio P.108A in Regia Aeronautica Italiana livery.
Cameron Park, CA hit 114 F (45.55556 C) 18:00 6 July 2024; severe heat wave 10 days now no relief till next weekend  room A/C unit bought last year keeping bedroom somewhat comfortable, should had bought it years ago :x holding off posting more model pixs till wave subsides.

The model kit included resin parts for the 37 mm gas operated automatic Breda Cannone-Mitragliera da 37/54 sans shells. If had presence of mind should had fabricated & painted some, strategically cut-out "glasshouse" panes for clear views of the shell loading system, oh well :(

1/72nd Scale AZ Model Reggiane 2003

Post by RetiredInKalifornia » Wed Jul 17, 2024 3:42 am

First flying on June 29, 1941 the sole Reggiane Re.2003 reconnaissance prototype developed from the Re.2002 fighter-bomber was intended to replace the IMAM Ro.37. The 14-cylinder Fiat A.74 RC.38 radial engine originally was to be used the more powereful Piaggio P. XI RC.40 chosen instead; production of a second prototype was started but not finished. The Regia Aeronautica Italiana had ordered 200 aircraft cancelling it in favor of increased fighter production during 1942.

Considering just one aircraft was built & flown three different 1/72nd scale Re.2003 kits have been marketed by AZ & RS Models well as Special Hobby since the late 1990s. Planet Models released a kit sometime during the 1990s molds of which likely acquired by AZ Models judging by its tooling I having built some of their early kit offerings.

I don't know for sure Bruno, need to review photos & count them all up! The Reggiane Re.2003 came as surprise build subject: three differently tooled kits of a single manufactured Italian aircraft, do wished kit makers had tooled molds for other Italian one-offs before retiring from model building in December 2020!
