Quandry Now Whether Continuing On Posting More Large Photos Of Models Or No

Post by RetiredInKalifornia » Sat Jul 20, 2024 10:44 pm

Before giving away my model collection in 2021 had taken hundreds of photos of the Italian aircraft builds some harkening from 2006 and in particular those of lesser known Italian aircraft subjects. Soon I will finish posting all photos of latters leaving being those of the well-known types; how many pix of the Revell Aeronautica Macchi C.200 Saetta could one stomach seeing before viewing bordom sets in?! View demand dictates so y'all let me know if interested in seeing them!

1/72nd Scale SEM Model Kit No.72016 Avia LM02 Model

Post by RetiredInKalifornia » Mon Jul 22, 2024 8:48 pm

Scalemates lists the 2018-vintage SEM Model & similar 2004-vintage A+V Models Kit No.126 as new tooled though both are out of production & hard to find. Regrettably all bombs in with my Italian aircraft builds were inaccurately painted those shown below should have been an overall light bluish-grey color.

1/72nd Scale Planet Models Kit No.PLT048 Breda Ba.44 Model

Post by RetiredInKalifornia » Tue Jul 23, 2024 5:11 am

Based on the 1934 de Havilland Dragon Rapide Breda purchased a manufacturing licence incorporating engineering changes in the Ba.44 better suited for the firm's manufacturing techniques, including redesigning the cockpit & empennage, 155 hp Colombo S.63 upright 6-cylinder air-cooled engines, 200 hp de Havilland Gipsy Six inverted 6-cylinder air-cooled ones powering the Dragon Rapide used in production aircraft instead. Only 2006-2020 build era model nearly destroyed when accidentially dropped years ago  :wtf:

Post by RetiredInKalifornia » Thu Jul 25, 2024 4:16 am

Scalemates lists the SEM Model resin kit with vacuform canopy & white metal landing gear parts as new tooled 2014 though near certainly its the years earlier-tooled kit no. unindexed Alitaliane model judging by this marketing photo:

1/72nd Scale SEM Model Kit No.72013 IMAM Ro.58 Model

Post by RetiredInKalifornia » Sat Jul 27, 2024 1:17 pm

Scalemates lists the SEM Model kit as 2017 new tooled though it possibly could be the 1986-vintage KPL Models or Planet Models Kit No.IMAM R0 58 or PLT161. Base armed with three nose-mounted German 20 mm MG 151 cannon two more were within a detachable fuselage belly-mounted tray the SEM kit unfortunately lacking parts for it.

1/72nd Scale SEM Model Kit No.72002 IMAM Ro.63 Model

Post by RetiredInKalifornia » Sat Jul 27, 2024 2:12 pm

A STOL (Short Takeoff & Landing) aircraft the Ro.63 was capable of accommodating 1-2 wounded passengers flying twice the range of the German Fieseler Fi 156 Storch & better performing only six 276 hp Hirth HM 508 inverted V-8 air-cooled engine-powered examples built due to insufficent production of 300 hp Isotta Fraschini Beta 6-cylinder inverted inline air-cooled engines intended for the 144 production aircraft. In 1948 IMAM proposed resuming Ro.63 production, lacking industrial capacity & surviving engineering data the project was abandoned.

Scalemates lists the SEM Model kit as 2013 new tooled though possibly the late 1990s-vintage Dujin or Italian Wings Kit Nos. A7299 or IW12.

1/72nd Scale Italian Kits Wings Kit No.IKW-7219 Bomba a Ossigeno Liquido Resin Models

Post by RetiredInKalifornia » Sun Jul 28, 2024 7:39 pm

Thermobaric weapons utilize combustible gases or liquids as explosives the WWII 15 cm six-barreled propane gas + explosive charge canister projector & German Nebelwerfer rocket launcher amongst the most notable. Italy's WWII contribution was the Bomba a Ossigeno Liquido (Liquid Oxygen Bomb) details of which are less known; breakable thermo bottles full of liquid oxygen presumably mixed with explosive chemicals such as gasoline or diesel fuel similar to jellied Napalm deployed as anti-personnel & blast-effect ones against field deployed military equipment.

On April 28, 1943 such a weapon was mounted on Regianne Re.2001 MM.90754 represnted here in 1/72nd scale & hung below a 1970-vintage Italaerei Kit No.A102 Reggiane Re.2001 model was displayed at the Aeroporto Militare di Furbara Experimental Center some photos of it surviving WWII, whether or not that weapon was armed isn't known though none were used operationally. Displeased the weapon couldn't be seen "in the round" a second Italian Kits Wings scale model of it painted in red-white ballistics tracking colors based on period photos was built & shown below in comparsion to the camouflaged Re.2001-mounted one.

1/72nd Scale Italaerei Kit No.A102 + Italian Kits Wings Conversion No.IKW7220 Reggiane Re.2001 Delta Engine Model

Post by RetiredInKalifornia » Sun Jul 28, 2024 9:04 pm

To compensate for slow license-built Daimler-Benz DB 601 Alfa Romeo R.A. 1000 RC 41-1 Monsone (Monsoon) engine production early in 1942 the Regia Aeronautica Italiana (RAI) ordered Caproni Taliedo to build one prototype MM.9920 powered by a 840 hp Isotta Fraschini Delta IV RC.16/48 12-cylinder inverted-V air cooled engine for evaluation. First flying on September 12th four days earlier the RAI anxious to increase Re.2001 production ordered 100 Delta-powered ones based on the type's paper-calculated performance, flown to Guidonia Monticello in November for flight evaluation M.M.9920's actual performance was far lower than expected, destroyed by an engine fire due to overheating on January 27, 1943 the RAI subsequentally cancelled the production order & further Delta-powered type development.
