Fiat G.50 bis 1:72 Fly models - Lauri

Post by Kriss » Sun Aug 10, 2025 2:57 pm

Hello! After a long absence. This time, I am working on a model of the Fiat G.50 bis ‘Freccia’. I will be using a Fly Models kit (72039) and additional parts in the form of pilot belts from Eduard, an instrument panel from Yahu Models (YMA7253), a Fiat A.74 engine from Yahu Models (YMS7230) and cowlings made by a friend with the designation 368 – 5 on the fuselage. The aircraft will be painted in Furio Lauri's livery, which is not included in the kit, a small change to create a model in a different interesting camouflage.

The fuselage is ready for assembly, Eduard straps are in place, and a Yahu plate has been used. The sight will be mounted after the fuselage is closed.

Thanks, Editor, for welcoming me back. Sometimes I disappear for a while. Now I have to catch up, as I have accumulated quite a few models. By the way, I would like to show off my new model, which will be a priority for the workshop in September, namely the Caproni Ca.3.

Beautiful cockpit detail. Yahu instrument panels are amazing. I look forward to what you do with your Ca.3.

This is what the Fiat A.74 engine made from the Yahu Models kit looks like before being put together. You can't see it in the photos, but there are pins and holes in the individual engine segments to make it easier to assemble correctly into a whole. A very cool addition is the nameplate, one tiny one for the engine body and a larger one for use on the stand, for example. The second photo shows the motor already assembled. I can't see it on the photo, but there are some notches on the shaft coming out of the engine, in case someone would like to make a ‘Fiat’ with the propeller removed. There are two engines, but there will be several of these Fiats built.

p.s. Editor I have to finish the Fiat G.50 x 2 both in 1:72, the Curtiss A.12 in 1:48, the Ki-61 in 48 and the Mc.202 in 1:32 so the Ca.3 will be in the workshop in September. I would like to do it in an interesting camouflage but I don't have the materials so if anyone would share the material I would be grateful. Although painting the canvas itself is also quite a challenge. I still have some time to spare.

I agree, the name plate is a nice touch. The Yahu engine detail is magnificent, it looks great.

I know Gregory Alegi did a series of books on the Caproni Ca.3, unfortunately I don't have any of those books and more importantly for you I don't know if the books have accurate profiles. As always, check ebay for any deals on these books and if you find one on ebay contact the seller and ask them if the books have profiles.

It is funny that with all the informations available on Stormo you've painted your Freccia interior in green when all Fiait figures were in grey. best regards

The bottom is ready, now it's time for masking and more colours. I put the white stripe on first.

ps. Thanks for the tips regarding Ca.3 and Fiat. It is not painted green, but rather vernice per interni subalare from the MRP-318 palette.

Welcome back Jean and I hope you're well. The unwritten rule on this site and forum is as you point out, see the Gallery and Color Guides (CMPR+Vito Charts) before starting a project, everything needed to build an accurate RA/ANR plane is contained in those pages.

For cockpits the pertinent link is contained in the CMPR page (which is maintained and updated continuously):

Painting continues, I had a little fun applying (Verde Olivia Scuro 2) the green colour.

I am so impressed with the work so far, as I only work in 1/32 scale working on something in 1/72 scares me but you are doing a great job.

Cheers

This is how my camouflage turned out, the colour is nocciola chiaro 4. I was inspired by similar camouflages.
