SLC Maiale

Post by jrlucero » Mon Dec 05, 2011 9:49 am

Hello guys! I haven't posted in while, but that doesn't mean that I haven't been following the excellent work posted on Stormo and I'm still making models.

This is my SLC Maiale based on Italeri's great 1/35 kit. I finished this one at the beginning of the year. The Maiale doesn't fly but it sure is cool and a very important piece of hardware for the Xª Flottiglia MAS.

Wow, fantastic job, I love it! If you get a chance pick-up a copy of "The Black Prince and The Sea Devils" by Greene and Massignani - it made me want to build this kit :)! If you would, I'd like a short article for the Gallery. Thank you.

I'm glad you liked the Maiale Vince! I didn't know about that book, it seems very interesting. It's going to go on my to read list, thanks for the tip. I've always been into the Xª Flottiglia MAS and Italeri's kit are just an excuse to learn more.

I'll be glad to write the article for the gallery.

Best regards,

Jose

If you like James Bond, Ian Fleming based elements of his book Thunderball (the first smash hit for the James Bond films) on the Xª MAS underwater exploits. btw the arch villian in that book/movie (Thunderball) was an Italian :)

While reading The Black Prince and the Sea Devils I'm sure you'll be referring to your master piece, I believe the Italeri Kit is a 200 Serie Maiale, the first put into action by these special forces.

Hello GAJouette!

The base color of the Maiale is Gunze 302 European Green (FS 34092) as suggested in the Italeri color profiles. I lightened it and darkened it accordingly to create highlights and shades.

After painting was done, the highlights where enhanced with a drybrush of a lighter green. The rust was done with a small sponge. Lifecolor tensocrom pigments where used to simulate water stains and to enhace the green shading. They were also used for the different shades of rust. This products are really good.

I'm glad you liked it!

Best regards,

Jose
