Macchi Greyhound 1/48 C 205

Post by 73north » Wed Mar 24, 2021 9:55 am

It seems like months ago ( only a few ) since I last posted on the Forum ( and got some extremely good help - which was appreciated !! :esmile: )
but its taken ages to get the energy and spare time ( I have worked non-stop each week , for 4 x 10 hour days in the NHS Operating Theatre doing Anaesthetics for Caesarean Sections
and Gynae Operations since the Pandemic began , apart from 2 weeks holiday last June 2020 , where I sat in my garden and started to aquire the parts and purchase from the USA - the rare Hasegawa Kit for the next Italian ww2 Fighter Project - namely the ' ANR Version Kit ' - the 1/48 Veltro .
Image

My next holiday is not till early May !! ( 10 days ) - its been a battle to get even that time off ..
Its the Thick Breathing FFP3 Masks that are the killer ( especially when warm ) - so your next day off - you feel tired for a while

I have gathered the following aftermarket - Eduard Brassin Wheel Bay Undercarriage set for C.202/205 , the full etch sets for C.205 ( one of which was a nightmare to source ), Eduard Paint Masks , Brass Machine Guns , Brass Pitot Tube , Aftermarket Decals for Adroni Visconti Red 19 - and also the rare C.205 Landing Flaps etch set
and last but far from least - the marvellous and very rare BD 605 Moskit Exhausts

Note - trying to have the correct panel lines and panel hatches for a 205 - that's the reason for the ink marks on the fuselage
anyway - this is what's been achieved so far - enjoy !
Image
note - I used IMGUR - downside is that you get some moronic comments on the site - but I ignore them .

Great work so far David, I'm looking forward to seeing the completed model and your progress. 09178 was the second release of this kit (ANR) and is a difficult kit to find not to mention very expensive.

I'm glad to hear you found some time getting started on this project, I can't imagine how tough it must be to do your schedule - it must be totally exhausting, both mental and physical. Stefano finds reprieve on the history side of this topic - he's a surgeon.

The purchase from the USA - of the rare Hasegawa Kit for the ' ANR Version Kit ' of the 1/48 Veltro cost me $ 38 US Dollars plus Surface Shipping ( tracked ) ..

That's a good price. The kit was expensive even when it was first released. It's still a nice kit considering its almost 30yrs old.

Nice start but you have to do a lot of sanding and scribing on the top wings as per a 205 the small hatches are oval and the small rectangular hatch is not at the proper place. Maurizio di Terlizzi named all those in his Aviolibri on the 205, plus what you have to do on the fuselage. Keep it up.Cheers.

David below are the pages (pp.25-39) Jean referred to in Maurizio's book regarding panels, hatches and other details not reproduced in the Hasegawa kit. Most people don't go to this level of detail (the base kit is fine) and we'd hate to add to your stress levels, after all modeling should be a respite :esmile: The images below have been resized only in this post but you can download each image to view it in greater detail by right clicking the image and "Save image as..."

Let me know if you have any questions or if you need additional material. Keep up the great work!

That's very , very useful

These are the corrected Inspection Hatches - altered and re-scribed onto the model - with Plasticard added to make them stand out better
( rounded at the edges - not square as in the 202 Folgore - or as HASEGAWA depicts

now for the 2 Nose Blisters and the 4 Cannon Wing Blisters ( 2 per side ) !
I am also using as a guide - the Werner Scheibling Veltro on Hyperscale - this Veltro Modification is more than I thought !

Wow that looks amazing. I'm sorry if I wasn't clear, I provided the information above if you wanted to use it and I hope I didn't imply that you had to use it - rescribing is allot of work but it looks like you made short work of it anyway :esmile: Your Veltro isn't even finished and it already looks great :esmile:

Now I know who you are when I realised it’s that Jean Barby !!
You are the guy who tamed the Fine Molds 1/48 Judy .
I remember you from Aviation of Japan where I posted a few of my aircraft
There myself . Kudos .
I looked at your details for the Veltro last night . Very helpful
I took your advice for the top wing hatches ( I didn’t know that , I admit )
Thank you
