Pre 1940 Pattuglia Acrobatica

Post by tricci57 » Tue Sep 01, 2020 3:17 pm

Hello
I always remain a bit confused on the dates and Stormo and Squadriglia of early aviation in Italy. Specifically the beginning of the Acrobatic Teams that led to the Frecce Tricolori of today.
The FIAT CR.32 is my current dilemma; did the 154 Squadriglia of the 4 Stormo assign a number of the CR.32 from its inventory to the acrobatic team?
There are publications and other papers out there delegating the task to the 153 and 150 and the 1 Stormo and 6 Stormo............and then it gets all confusing.
As I am in process in building a collection of the aircrafts that were used by the Squadriglie (matching Stormo) identifying the aircrafts with their call numbers and ID is extremely important for me, and I need the accuracy.
Is there an organization or group that I may contact and credit the reference? or....
is there a trusted web site that I can use to gain accurate information? or.....
an individual I may be able to correspond to?

I appreciate your patience and understanding, look forward to any instructions or advice. Thank you

...Courage Alone The Italian Air Force 1940-1943 Hikoki Publications 1998 Revised 2009 IBSN 978 1 90210 909 1 55695 Barcode. Comprehensive unit histories, Squadriglia, Gruppo, Stormo cross references June 10, 1940 to September 8, 1943, pre-June 1940 unit histories also, must-have basic reference for those wanting to trace individual wartime squadriglia histories.

Below some specific information from ADI #4 (I haven't read through it). Also look for Ali e Immagini Vol. 1 FIAT CR.32 (mostly a pictorial history but could be useful), there's the old Profile book #22 by Gianni Cattaneo and Squadron Signal #172. But I think you're best bet is to get in touch with Stefano Lazzaro should have more information, he wrote a few articles on this subject in the History articles on this site.

Though dealing mainly about 4 stormo, this link has a lot of info. Sadly for you it's in Italian. I hope something of your ancestor's language has remained with you. By the day, a pilot of 6 stormo was Corrado Ricci, an ace either in Spain and East Africa. If not, try an automatic translator.

I hope this help.

Buona sera.

Tom I made some corrections to the link above, I'm not sure that's the link Stefano had in mind but it does work now. Hopefully Stefano can confirm.
