Me 109 G6 Erla canopy in service with the RSI

Post by Zeb » Thu Sep 02, 2021 6:56 am

Hi to all forum members.
Just arrived in your interesting corner. Not spring chicken anymore, picked up modelling again after a 40 years hiatus.

I am looking for any profile of a G6 using the Erla canopy in service with the Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana of the RSI.
I found many profiles and photos of G10 and G14 but very little concerning the G6 with the Erla canopy. Is there any good soul that can help me out?

Thank you guys,

Zeb

Hi Zeb, welcome to Stormo.

There were two ANR groups that operated the Bf.109: 1o Gruppo and 2o Gruppo. 2o Gruppo began receiving its Bf.109s at the end of May 30, 1944 (10 new) and May 31, 1944 (8 new) + 8 more from JG 4, 53 and 77 at Cascina Vaga. 1o Gruppo did not become operational on the Bf.109 until March 1945 and all but two of its planes, delivered by Erla and Messerschmitt, were brand new G10s, G14s and K-4s. The two Erla built G-6s were 412.349 and 440.547 - there are no photos of these planes that I'm aware of.

There are a couple of photos of 2o Gruppo G-6s with the Erla canopy. One is a Regensburg (Messerschmitt) built plane just arrived at Cascina Vaga in June 1944 and still in German markings. The other G-6 with an Erla canopy was photographed at Villafranca in October 1944 with 1a Sq., there is no W.Nr. for this plane. There's also an Erla built G-6 with 2a Sq. "Diavoli Rossi" but there's not a whole lot of information in the photo (basically an angled nose shot).
