I am using Mr Terlizzi`s Reggiane RE200 Aviolibri special #6(among others) as a guide for my build of a 1/48 Classic Airframes RE2000. Page 28 lists a profile of a RE2000 serie II/III 377-5 in what looks to be in NC4 with dense VOS2 mottles with a black cowl. In addition the Squadriglia marking is in a red background. This profile is repeated in other publications as well. I was under the impression that new factory serie II/III Re2000`s issued to the 377 were in a common prewar 3 tone scheme rather than a 2 tone Tavola 10 livery. I have also seen the Squadron badge in blue. I have no actual pictures of this airframe. Is this profile as published correct? Thanks to all.

There were 3 or 4 Re.2000 Serie III of 377a Sq that had been returned from factory in March 1942 for repairs and repainted in VOS2 + NC4 mottles with a total of 10, the others in VOS2. The unit badge background is in my opinion blue. Below is a photo of Fiat CR.42CN 377-4 with unit badge and markings.

I was under the impression that the majority of RA individual aircraft numbers were in red. If that is the case the CR-42CN ac number and squadron marking background would be red because they look to be the same color. If the CR-42CN ac number is blue then the squadron badge background would be blue per the same observation. You are saying that the CR-42CN individual ac number that you shared is in blue, correct?
In regards to your information of RE2000 factory repair and repaint in 1942 I would assume that published profile in Tavola 10 colors is correct with a red ac number with a red squadron badge. Thank you

There were no directives/directive for unit markings. The style, shape and colors were left to the units. I do think the individual aircraft number '4' is blue in the photo above although there is a slight tonal difference between the unit badge background and the individual aircraft number as well as half the hyphen. Red almost always turns out much darker (near black because of the photo processing) than in this photo. btw Fiat CR.42CN 377-4 was flown by Italian Ace ten. L. Torchio who shot down a Wellington in a night engagement over Palermo on 21/22 Feb 1943 flying this plane. There's also another Fiat CR.42 photo (below) of this squadron with no color background or what some might have interpreted as a red background:

When you examine both photos, the things to note are that both are starboard-side photos and the next thing to note is that the drawings of the unit emblems are not the same. Finally photos of 377a Sq Re.2000s are rare.
