Hi all- thought I'd do a test of the smoke ring decals. They are very thin, and work well with Microset and sol in this case applied over gloss varnished paints. Colour wise- as you can see when applied over a sandy brown they take on a good approximation of VOS2. In this case I used Mr Color C310 Brown FS30219 at left to replicate NC4, and Tamiya LP-77 Light Brown DAK 1942 to show how the decal colour is changed by the underlying hue.
Although there is a certain fuzziness to the decal in reality – the image makes it look far more so, due to file resolution downsizing. I'd say that with careful application these will make smoke ringing your Macchi much less daunting.
cheers

Re: Italeris 1/32 Macchi 202 smoke ring decals - a test
Thanks for doing this. Clearly the decals are a tiny bit transparent, although the drawing of the smoke ring is accurate, I think they used some of my drawings (it wouldn't be the first time) I agree the color matching of the smoke ring is pretty good, close to VOS2. Mr Color C310 Brown FS30219 looks right (brown) but I've seen 30219 appear like LP-77 with a pink hue - the old Pollyscale paints for example and now Italeri acrylics. Although the RA standardized around the Tavola X colors and provided paint suppliers with chips, NC4 got darker especially C.205Vs painted in 1944. Thank you for sharing and excellent job on the riveting.

Thank you for doing this test, I was a bit suspicious about the smoke ring decals but yours looks fine to me.
