Greetings to one and all from the great white north,
A special thanks to Jean Barby for recommending this great site and also much thanks for making this forum available.
Does anyone out there have any photos of Cr-42 Falcos serving with 3 Gruppo {Aut} in North Africa, parent to 153,154 and 155 squadriglia ?
I would like to know what were the colours used to identify the squadron and a/c numbers on the side of the fuselage within this unit?
Also, did these Falcos display the 6 stormo badge (red devil) since this was the former parent to the 3rd Gruppo?
Thanks in advance.

Cr 42s in Northern Africa
Sorry, this morning I was very busy; I attach now the photo that is the one I was able to find; it comes from the booklet Dimensione Cielo n°1 Caccia-Assalto 1971; I hope it can be useful.

Re: CR-42 marking question
Thanks so much Riccardo.
It would appear that the 155 squadriglia used white ID numbers, the same colour used by 150 gruppo {Aut} CT which handed down there Falcos to the
3rd gruppo according to Chris Dunning's Courage Alone.
I wonder if the 153 and 154 squads used the same colour?
For that matter, was the colour of RA squadriglia and a/c numbers decided at a gruppo commanders level or was there a rule that determined this and did the ID colours change from one location to the next ? Anyone?
Again thanks Riccardo for the scan.
Much appreciated.

Red Devil on Cr42s
I remembered that also these images exist, even if it is not sure they represent Cr42s of the Squadriglias you mentioned; but I think they are very interesting as all the book they come from, book I recommed to all people interested in RA markings; the book is:
Araldica della Regia Aeronautica volume I°
written by Pierluigi Moncalvo and Giovanni Massimello
Issued by Gruppo Modellistico Trentino di studio e ricerca storica (GMT)
People interested can visit the site:
www.gmtmodellismo.it
for information: info@gmtmodellismo.it
The book includes the history of the following markings and some others:
17° Gruppo
3° Stormo
First badge of 4° Stormo
15° Gruppo
Gigi Tre Osei
6° Stormo
Cucaracha
97° Gruppo B.a.T
193° SquadrIglia
The history of the badges are complete and exhaustive

Re: CR-42 marking question
Wow, that is wonderful information Rick,
I wonder since this aircraft sports a number 6 on the side, if this is the mount of the stormo commander?
Thanks again for your generous input.
