Today I arrived home this photo:
On the back it says:
Airmen to work around a Picchiatello
July 11, 1941
If the date is correct, according to the Squadron Diary should have been taken in the early days of African presence in the squadron (even if the vegetation on the ground raises some doubt me).
The same plane you can see picture on page. 21 of the book "97° Gruppo Autonomo Bombardamento a tuffo 1940-1941" SMA - di Borgiotti-Gori.
This photo is portrayed Lt. Mario Daverio supported on the boot of Picchiatello.
According to this, G.Alegy says that Stuka had MM.5935 and was shot down over the skies of Malta on 24.06.1942, although Daverio perished before (but this does not mean that has fallen on this aircraft).
Curious as the seat on this aircraft is not the classic Schmittner of B-2/R-2:
Or at least there seems to be a sort of cushion rests ..
I just scans better.
I take this opportunity to ask all those who have original photos of Picchiatello in service c/o Regia Aeronautica to sale, contact me at email: danielegatti@alice.it
