Balaton Model Savoia-Marchetti SM.75

Post by RetiredInKalifornia » Fri Dec 06, 2019 7:09 pm

Tonight purchased one Balaton Modell Savoia-Marchetti SM.75 1/72 Scale resin kit released in 2016 for U.S. $84.83 from Balaton Modell U.K. via PayPal. I'd not heard of the store nor the kit which appears to be a "house brand" model of five S.75s exported to MALÉRT Hungarian airlines in 1938-39 subsequently militarized with dorsal & ventral gun stations:

The kit fascinates me enough to build it in Magyar Királyi Honvéd Légierő livery given Regia Aeronautica Italia aircraft were fitted with just one 12.7mm Breda-SAFAT machine gun mounted in a Caproni-Lanciani dorsal gun turret whilst the Hungarians had two dorsal & one ventral gun stations.

Interesting kit. The S.75 was a great plane, it was used primarily for transport in WWII and occasionally for bombing too. It was a very successful civil transport before the war. Interesting photo later variants had an angular rudder. Yes definitely build a Hungarian S.75.

...build it Hungarian; did LF Models Kaproni-Bulgarski KB 6/KB 309 Papagal in Bulgarian livery with Luftwaffe enamels, hopefully find Hungarian enamels as well. Last "Hungarian" I'd built was Revell Ju-88 c.1986, gave it to a Hungarian-born immigrant railway electrical systems engineer who'd served in the RAF during 1960s, guy's long since passed, definitely one of my best builds

Given general unavailability of the BroPlan vacuform & Italian Kits Wings offerings, latter resin conversions requiring Italeri S.82 donors, the Balaton SM.75 kit likely will be the only one I'll build of this Italian transport, display case for it currently being occupied by the SUPERMODEL CANT Z.506B & Choroszy Modelbud Z.504 seaplanes, getting to it following completion of the above posted group builds.

First Look: Balaton Modell BM7265 Savoia-Marchetti S.75

Post by RetiredInKalifornia » Fri Dec 27, 2019 1:52 pm

The 2017-vintage 1/72 scale Balaton Modell BM7265 Savoia-Marchetti S.75 resin model kit arrived from Hungary in mail today December 27, 2019:

Far as I know BM7265 the only complete 1/72 scale model kit of the military S.75 currently available for sale; Balaton Modell also market the 2018-vintage BM7264 S.74 civil airliner. Kit BM7265 appears to be well crafted with good interior parts detailing, to my delight it comes with decals & presumably parts for the Regia Aeronautica Italia (RAI) transport, if so will build it in RAI livery otherwise will built it in Hungarian Air Force livery as part of my Group IV builds later in 2020.

Obviously, build the the Hungarian version. We should be posting this work as a Product Review in the Gallery. We're kind of wasting allot of your work and burying it in this thread. The Gallery gets a ton of traffic, there are probably anywhere from 3-5 people actively, at any moment, looking at the Gallery, all day, everyday.

...Can you make a Gallery link direct to this discussion thread so they can see my current works in progress? My Group I Builds will be done by January 20th after that maybe you can close this thread then create links for all new builds in progress by aircraft subject off the Gallery? However you want to exhibit my model building activities is fine with me.

...Resuming work on the Italian Kits Wings Savoia-Marchetti SM.89 January 3rd, completion c. 20th. This is the last of the Group I builds, still awaiting word on whether Group II et. al. series builds will be transferred to the STORMO Gallery or whatever other arrangement ya'll decide on.

Barring any new "kit releases of interest" meantime will finish building all my "Italians" this year months earlier than expected. SEM Model very likely will rerelease the SM.84 this year, Italian Kits Wings (IKW) maybe the FIAT G.50V, definitely want to build them. Still vainly looking for anybody's AUT.18 & Caproni Ca.133, wishing as well anybody will come out with a Macchi C.206 kit, SEM Model isn't interested, IKW is only other "logical" option ala Cunarmodel's C.207.

Immediately after building the last "Italians" in stock will proceed with Luftwaffe subject builds starting with the 1/72 scale late 1960s-vintage Lindberg, FROG & Revell Heinkel He-219s. Barring deciding to build any other WWII-era aircraft subjects absolutely want to "forever retire" from kit model building by December 31, 2022 assuming am in good health meantime capping off 18 years of continuous model building, 62 years of off & on building as well, years yet to go however, fingers remaining crossed meantime!
