Exactly about Tucker, he's sounding more alarmist than informational on Covid-19, I guess since he got Biden wrong (of course our Scientific poll on Stormo predicted a Biden win in a landslide as well as getting the Superbowl right  ) and he was also wrong about the Hillary DNC nomination in 2016 (together with Mark Steyn who gets a lot of things wrong, although very entertaining), he feels the need to remind us at the beginning of each show how he got corona "right". Yes the US/Trump response to Covid-19 has been incredible, yet criticized to death including sparking "outrage" for calling Covid-19 the Chinese virus? We haven't heard a word from our PM and we're in lock down - how lucky you guys are to have the leadership you do.

COVID-19 Didn't Stop My 2020 "Cemetery Tour"

Post by RetiredInKalifornia » Fri Mar 20, 2020 10:41 pm

The annual "cemetery tour" trip of relatives March 18th & 19th was best since commencing them in 2017 insofar as not being bothered by left side nose sinus & tinnitus pain thanks to neti pot salt water flushing, done wonders since began using it last month, that along with not driving though God-awful bad air though the San Joaquin Valley filled with agricultural production-related pollutants.

California State Route 99 (Hwy 99) & Interstate 5 (I-5) traffic on way to Los Angeles morning & afternoon the 18th normal weekday, no delays other than slowing for always present road construction work, traffic through San Fernando Valley, around downtown Los Angeles, Interstate 710 toward Long Beach much lighter than normal, on way stopped off at two cemeteries to leave flowers & pay respects. Days Inn hotel I'd stayed overnight 18th-19th in Artesia southeastern Los Angeles County less than quarter occupied, they'd upgraded me to room with king bed same price; 5:30 p.m. walked to MacDonald's across street, dining room closed, went to auto speaker to order Big Mac meal, said I was on foot, worker didn't know what to do  she got boss on, said he'll serve me at window, ate at hotel next to empty cabana.

Departing Artesia 5:30 a.m. the 19th immediately got hung up in traffic at California State Route 91 & Interstate 605 due to auto accident, traveled on light surface roads to I-5, traffic on it around downtown Los Angeles & San Fernando Valley much lighter than usual bumper-bumper mess. Traffic through Tehachapi Mountains on I-5 north much lighter than normal, raced though lickity split, at Grapevine stopped at Denny's restaurant, was closed :eh: continued on Hwy 99 to Taft Highway junction to get gas + food to eat. Whilst driving in-out of rain cells heard Trump's morning COVID-19 briefing on radio, at Goshen were Dad's father arrived there by rail from Portugal in 1905 drove west on State Route 198 to Grangeville Cemetery Armona paying respects to Mom's dad & older sister, Mom's grandfather Sergeant Samuel Brownlow Lewis who's served in Company L 13th Tennessee Calvary (Union) during the Civil War.

Departing Grangeville around 10:30 a.m. headed north on State Route 41 towards Fresno to Hwy 99 in-out of rainstorms, at Merced weather cleared, traffic lighter than normal then on. Arriving home at 1:15 p.m. heard news about Sacramento County's "stay in place" order ala San Francisco Bay Area counties well as Orange County, 7:15 p.m. heard about Gavin Newsom's "stay in place" order for all off California whilst at local supermarket, glad indeed I'd completed the tour in time!

Aircraft Model Builds Still In Progress During COVID-19 Pandemic

Post by RetiredInKalifornia » Sun Mar 29, 2020 7:19 pm

El Dorado County in California where I live as of today March 29, 2020 has 12 confirmed COVID-19 cases out of a population of 190,000-plus people, statistics favor my not getting the bug even if 10-times that many people caught it now till April 30, 2020 when the current co Federal/California "stay-in-place" order remains in force, am continuing to build airplane models meantime. The only hobby building products will absolutely need to buy during April are cans lacquer thinner & paint cleaner, shouldn't be difficult getting them, paper products, including towels, on the other hand are still difficult coming by though won't need to get them for some days yet.

New York is getting hit pretty hard. The main issue is preparedness, i.e., not enough IC units, the rapidity of infection and the duration of the illness, which means people pile into hospitals overwhelming doctors who can't treat people fast enough resulting in the large numbers of deaths. Hydroxychloroquine + Zpak for patients that qualify seems to be promising. Blood plasma from recovered patients (an old way of dealing with nasty viruses) seems to be the best solution at this time. It's not that the virus is that deadly (like ebola), it's the lineups at hospitals that it creates that's the problem i.e., capacity.

Trump did well to cut off flights from China (probably saved California) but the virus snuck-in from Europe and into NY state.

The US media is awful, no respect for their President and not helping at all. Trumps team announced they would push out the date for current polices to the end of April. I think Trump let the medical experts have their way, this time, but that's it - I think the US and the West go back to work in May.

"Open Where Possible, Close Where Necessary"

Post by RetiredInKalifornia » Sun Mar 29, 2020 8:35 pm

Steve Hilton tonight March 29, 2020 on FOX News' The Next Revolution advocates such a targeted approach to get the U.S. economy off idle gear, ex. Tap Plastics in Sacramento where I buy my model display cases only is taking "email appointment" visits (must ask them exactly what that means!), unless they're genuinely worried about clients having COVID-19 Gavin Newsom should allow them to resume business on a "social distancing" basis assuming their fabricators can resume working on a "social distancing basis" which I think they can having seen their fabricating work areas. I of course can cover the models though worry they'll accidentally be damaged whilst waiting for the cases, won't be an issue till c. April 15th when can get to Balaton Modell S.75 build. I'd also like to get a hair cut next month but will wait till the hair stylists are back in business, meantime will patronize local supermarkets & restaurants where open.

I don't think anyone has an alternative, they'll have to startup by the beginning of May. I think most people believed an Easter start-up was too early. I look at the daily briefings from the Trump administration, and the lack thereof in Canada. In fact our Prime Minister only announced daily briefings on Friday - MIA - while Trump is eviscerated on a daily basis. A plethora of leadership in the US - what I witnessed when I spent allot of time working there. There's a reason why the US is the most important country in the world. The US will lead us out this.

A good thing to come out of this, if anything, is social distancing.

...Steve Hilton's ideas are good particularly in U.S. rural counties, even in 40 million strong California sparse mountain & desert ones, "urban" western El Dorado County where I'm at will have to wait till May for relief however.

Nancy Pelosi later today will roll out the Democrats' "stimulus plan" top to bottom laden Socialism mixed in with favored "Green New Deal" industries et. al. extraneous things ala perpetual Plan Parenthood funding, outright amnesty for illegals, everything Bernie Sanders could ever hope for even though he won't be the Dem's presidential candidate. Whole point of the monstrosity is to push Trump into corner "buying" much of it to get what he & Republicans want in the way of additional relief; watch Mitch McConnell put out the Senate's version by week's end, that'll be the one Trump starts with.

Nancy surely knows the Republicans will win back the House, keep the Senate given Trump's favorable polling during this National Emergency particularly if the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (or whatever else it goes by) proves effective, watch also for a "Draft Andy" (Cuomo) movement get underway once the National Emergency is lifted, doddering Creepy, Sleepy Joe Biden must be "put out to pasture" for the Dems to have any credible chance of challenging "The Orange One" by Election Day November 3, 2020.

One thing you can credit Trump with is planning, that emanates from his background as a businessman (he has a plan), and add to that an incredible team around him. The thing is, Trump can't allow his medical experts to run the country - with their narrow view - some medical experts even advocating a year or 2 years of shut-down to eradicate the virus (I'm sure Fauci would love that and I'm not entirely sure Fauci is in Trump's corner either). It's the same reason you wouldn't allow the military to run a country or even economists and therein lies the balance of true leadership. In National polling you have to add about +10% to Trump's ratings at any given point, this is not an exaggeration, in places like Pennsylvania and the rust-belt he was expected to lose in 2016 by double digits but in fact won by double digits (in some cases +20 pt swings). I also don't believe the popular vote in the US, with its lax voting standards and rampant long time fixing of elections that go back to Kennedy - almost all of that occurring on the left.

...Dr. Fauci knows his medical stuff, Trump won't question him, Dr. Birx, Surgeon General Jerome Adams, CDC medical people, anybody on Mike Pence's team managing the disaster either on medical grounds other than reminding them to let him - Trump - know when time is right to commence restarting parts of the economy ala Steve Hilton's "Open Where Possible, Close Where Necessary" point last night on The Next Revolution.

There are restaurants here in Western El Dorado County which could reopen under "social distancing" guidelines early as April 15th IMHO give there hasn't been explosive COVID-19 case growth, near none since last Thursday though methinks its 3x that factoring in unreported cases, no problem for me keeping barbers, beauty salons, massage parlors (legal & otherwise), any business requiring direct person-person contact other than medically or dentally necessary closed till end of next month, allowing minimal-contact businesses to reopen ala Tap Plastics for me practicing "social distancing" IMHO early as April 15th. What's gonna be inconvenient is having to wait till pre National Emergency backlog of work & job orders being processed before things get back to normal, will be months particularly with "things Government" the judicial system Exhibit A here, for sure they - the Government - won't have any backlogs when it comes to making sure y'all here pay taxes!

To the statistically-minded, here's an interesting statistical count of Covid-19 country-by-country that I've been following for a while. The last column is the most interesting since it tells us how much testing is done per 1 million persons or the rate of testing a country is actually doing. Surprisingly France and the UK are doing little testing although stats from France seem to be unreliable in general. South Korea, often mentioned as the gold-standard in testing, although satisfactory, isn't doing the amount of testing we thought they were.

The US has done the highest number of tests (1.8 million) but per capita still need to do more and with their Abbott test that should change.

I'm not sure why people aren't discussing this but it seems obvious to me that once the Chinese knew coronavirus could be a pandemic, they then worked to spread it around the globe. I guess the thinking would be if China were badly impacted, might as well impact the rest of the world to the greatest extent possible. Also looking at the curves in your link I think the spread is more than people think and that although social distancing is having an impact it isn't having as much of an impact as people think but rather the curves are turning over by themselves. In Italy, one town in Lombardy was placed into strict quarantine in early March but 70% of its population still got covid. This reminds me of the first sars in early 2000s, it came and went quickly, and some scientist believe it was because sars was so infectious that everyone got it but it wasn't as lethal as people thought and so the virus died out on its own. Covid19 looks like the same thing.

I think Trump believes the Chinese purposely infected the rest of the world, he hinted at it when he called out the WHO in yesterday's press briefing. Trump doesn't say or hint at those things unless he knows it to be true. Good observation about the infection rate, the curves all do look similar and within a month a peak is reached which suggests as you pointed out that the virus spreads quickly and then seems to die out on its own. The only thing I would say is that there's been second break outs in places that opened up too early like China and Singapore. Until we test everyone we won't know for sure and what testing has been done there's a large number of false negatives although with the Abbott test this should change.

I think Covid-19 is raising other questions like, are we living too long? In Italy the average age of mortality due to Covid-19 is 85. 75% of those that died in Italy had 3 or more underlying conditions. This is nature simply at work. In Alberta, we shut down an entire economy for 29 deaths. More people die of drug and alcohol abuse in this province, in a shorter period of time. Most of the "expert" models, on which policy is based, have grossly overestimated the number of people dying. I have no confidence in these medical "experts", Birx even seems to be enjoying the limelight. At some point the fear of fear took over.

once it had become known that china stopped all flights from wuhan province to the rest of china, but still allowed 5 million chinese to travel abroad (presumably all or mostly infected with covid19) it was obvious that the chinese intended to infect the rest of the world. their diplomats tried everything to keep flights coming into the US. The next obvious question is, isn't all this criminal (the hague)?
